Application performance and cloud cost optimisation

A slow application or a high cloud bill does not always call for a new hosting platform. I look at software behaviour and infrastructure together to identify useful changes.

Discuss your project

Start with useful measurements

The starting point is an observed problem: a slow user journey, a long-running process, a saturated resource or spending that no longer matches usage. We establish what to measure and the service level to preserve.

Potential causes may involve queries, processing, caching, service configuration or resource sizing. Investigation determines where to act.

Optimise within the product’s constraints

  • Review usage, resource consumption and associated costs.
  • Identify relevant application or infrastructure changes.
  • Compare options alongside their maintenance and operational implications.
  • Check the effect on service delivery and the original measurements.

A concrete reference, not a universal promise

At AE3, I reduced cloud costs to roughly one fifth while retaining equivalent services. This result belongs to that environment; it is not a guaranteed saving for another infrastructure.

The value depends on the opportunities actually present. An initial discussion helps establish your environment and the information available for analysis.

To start, describe your environment, the symptoms or spending to investigate, and the product’s availability requirements.
